Background & History
Avinor is the organisation responsible for planning, developing and operating the Norwegian airport network. The Air Traffic Controllers, employed by Avinor perform a yearly Periodic Professional Update (PPU) as part of a government imposed, multi-part program for the maintenance and control of skills. This includes simulator training, theoretical update, practical evaluation and theoretical evaluation.
The theoretical update or evaluation is implemented by an electronic knowledge test, with the requirement to pass in order to continue to work operational. Civil Aviation Authority – Norway, regulate the formal requirements for the tests.
Since 2005 all Air Traffic Controllers at control centres, approach controls and control towers have completed their yearly PPU, through SmartLearn® Knowledge Tests for Aviation.
Knowledge Tests
A question pool has been established, with over 2500 questions. Every Air Traffic Controller is set up with a profile according to his organisation unit/location, ratings, endorsements and sectors. Questions are tagged accordingly. Questions regarding local regulations are maintained locally at each location.
When an Air Traffic Controller takes a test, either for training or exam, the required numbers of questions are extracted from the question pool, matching the Air Traffic Controllers location, ratings, endorsements, etc.
Product & Concept
SmartLearn® LMS Knowledge Test is an add-on module to the Norwegian LMS, SmartLearn® LMS. Knowledge Test for Aviation is a concept built together with Avinor according to European aviation standards.
